The cadre consists of four officers: a commander (Professor of Aerospace Studies) and three academic instructors (Assistant Professors of Aerospace Studies). The cadre staff includes two Noncommissioned Officers who provide mission support and military training expertise for the cadets. The cadre and staff bring a wealth of real-world Air Force experience to their classrooms.

Colonel Ellsworth E. Tulberg, Jr.
Commander

Colonel Ellsworth E. Tulberg, Jr. is the Commander of Air Force ROTC Detachment 440 and Professor and Department Chair of Aerospace Studies at the University of Missouri.  He is responsible for recruiting, training and commissioning all AFROTC cadets on the MU campus and other colleges in the Columbia region.

 

Col Tulberg received his commission through the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1981.  Before assuming his current position, he served at the U.S. Air Force Academy as Vice Commander of the 10th Air Base Wing. Colonel Tulberg is a Command Pilot with 24 years of active military service, having flown F-16 and F-111 fighter aircraft while serving as a commander at squadron and group levels. His non-flying positions include tours as the Director of Operations for the Combined Air Operations Centers in Saudi Arabia and South Korea , Chief of Exercises for the United Kingdom ’s Royal Air Force, and Operations Officer at the U.S. Air Force’s Squadron Officer School . He holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of London and a Bachelors Degree in Natural Science from the University of Arkansas . His major areas of academic interest include education and geopolitics.  He assumed his present position in July 2006.
