Air Force ROTC cadet life is so much more than classroom lectures and marching drills. The experience includes innovative workouts during the twice weekly physical training, competitive games against other AFROTC units, and friendships that last a lifetime. Even during downtime, there’s always an opportunity to build camaraderie.

Extracurriculars

Fighting Tiger Student Organization Constitution (FTSO)

FTSO’s mission is to raise money for Detachment 440’s Cadet Wing through various fundraising opportunities, host Air Force traditional events such as Dining In/Out, morale events for cadets, and create detachment merchandise.  FTSO members also lead and participate in Memorial Stadium cleanup after home games.

FTSO membership is only available to AFROTC active cadets. Silver Wing members attached to Detachment 440 are also eligible for membership.

Arnold Air Society (AAS)

Arnold Air Society is an honorary, professional and service organization that works with Detachment 440, The University of Missouri and Silver Wings to better the Columbia area. Through community service and fundraising activities, AAS has supported such causes as Relay for Life, Walk to End Alzheimer's and local charities all around Mid-Missouri.

Silver Wings

Silver Wings (SW) is a national, co-ed, professional organization dedicated to creating proactive, knowledgeable, and effective civic leaders through community service and education about national defense.

Silver Wings’ predecessor organization, Angel Flight, had a specific objective of supporting the mission of Arnold Air Society. While this is no longer explicitly stated, Silver Wings remains committed to developing strong civilian leaders with an understanding of aerospace power–and the continuing partnership between AAS and SW is critical to building this understanding.

Color Guard

Color Guard is an extracurricular Air Force ROTC team that has the honor of presenting the American flag in a variety of settings, including celebratory events, memorial services and sporting events.

Honor Guard

Honor Guard is an extracurricular AFROTC team designed to train you in precision drills and ceremonies with arms. They compete against other colleges and universities, showcasing their expertise in military professionalism, customs and courtesies.

Tiger Rucking Team

Rucking is a form of physical exercise that involves walking through various terrain with a weighted backpack or rucksack. Cadets on the Tiger Rucking Team engage in physical training and participate in competitions against AFROTC detachments nationwide.

Endurance Team (E-Team)

E-Team focuses on physical fitness. The cadets train throughout the academic year by participating in challenging physical activities, pushing personal and mental boundaries to bolster physical fitness and build strong team comradery. E-Team also has special warfare training opportunities. The cadets on E-Team who have gone through special warfare training utilize their training and experiences to better prepare cadets for special warfare career selection.

Physical Training

The Air Force fitness program goal is "to motivate Airmen to participate in a year-round physical conditioning program that emphasizes total fitness".

At Det. 440, we encompass the same mindset and encourage cadets to live an active lifestyle and provide the tools to make that possible. Cadets must participate in Wing physical training sessions twice a week, which include aerobic conditioning, strength and flexibility training, and athletic development.

Health benefits from an active lifestyle will increase productivity, optimize health, and decrease absenteeism. This will allow each aspiring Airman or Guardian to effectively accomplish the Air and Space Force mission.
